Looks fine to a artistic layman, which most of us are.

I'll keep some of those suggestions in mind. Shield variation based upon rank is a good idea. Maryos should be most elaborate, VGM next and then maybe just one other for the rest of us lackeys.

I added some highlights to the letters and tried Abadi Mt Condensed Extra Bold. Tried to give the black more color and lessen the "flat" effect.

Much crisper look to it... before the words were competing with the image. I think given the bulbous form of the shield it's only fitting to have a typeface to go with that. The highlight fixed that flat issue... I like the hat much better now. if you bump the hat up a couple of notches it will open the bottom of the black up and even out the negative space in the blue section on the left.

so the logo is in the middle make great banner to make our forum presents known. I'm debating on whether I like like it plain or if maybe you could take that same gold/brass feel and adapt it in the letter forms. I don't know until I look
